The University of Liverpool is a remarkable place, combining academic excellence with the attributes of our famous home maritime city: a spirit of creativity, originality, welcoming to all and committed to social responsibility. As we look towards our 150th anniversary in 2031, in 2023 we launched an ambitious strategy – Liverpool 2031 – to build on our distinctive strengths and characteristics and go further, developing the confidence and sustained excellence to break into the top-100 ranked Universities in the world.

To help us achieve this, we are seeking an exceptional Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join us. As a key member of the University’s Senior Leadership Team, the COO will provide visible and collegiate leadership to an extensive portfolio of professional services, ensuring they make an outstanding contribution towards delivering Liverpool 2031 and our academic endeavour. The COO will promote a strong culture of excellence and innovation across their portfolio, overseeing budgetary planning, allocation and monitoring of resources (physical and financial) and ensuring that the University’s investment in support services is optimised to support its core activities.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an inspirational senior leader. You will have an established track record of successful strategic leadership within large, complex institutions, and significant experience leading large and diverse teams. This includes managing senior direct reports, leading on succession planning, selection, coaching and development of senior leaders. You will have a successful track record in assessing and implementing improved processes and major projects and change programmes, working collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders to deliver these.

The University has appointed global executive search firm Perrett Laver to support the appointment of Chief Operating Officer.
