The Nuffield Trust has been in existence for over 80 years, throughout which time it has consistently been a leading source of research and commentary on the quality of health care and health policy across all four nations of the United Kingdom.
Every part of the health and care system is under sustained and significant pressure: an older, sicker and more diverse population needs more care than the state is currently set up to provide; staff shortages, burnout and industrial disputes threaten the sustainability of the NHS and social care workforce; a series of short-term fixes in multiple areas – from hospital buildings to primary care and workforce planning – are revealing deep-seated problems in the fabric of health and care. Advances in medicine, technology and our understanding of data provide some hope for the future, but political instability and the fallout of Covid-19 make finding long-term solutions to these problems elusive.
In this sobering context, the need for nonpartisan, credible and robust analysis, research and policy solutions is clear.
As an organisation that is independent of the NHS and of politics, funded largely by their own endowment and of a size that enables them to respond quickly to the fast-moving environment confronting us all, the Nuffield Trust punches above their weight in influence, impact and profile.
As part of its continued evolution, they are seeking a new CEO to provide leadership to the organisation and to ensure that it continues to fulfil its duties and responsibilities to the people it serves.
You will be an outstanding individual with a recognised track record of achievement in research and policy development who can enlarge the influence and impact of the Nuffield Trust in line with the Trustee’s strategic vision. You will likely possess substantive experience in health and care policy and practice, and be a respected figure within the sector. You will have the leadership, communication and intellectual capacity to make the most of Nuffield Trust staff and their quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, enhancing the Nuffield Trusts reputation and impact in the process. You will act as a creative driving force in the organisation, pushing the boundaries of understanding and knowledge about health and care policy and challenging groupthink.
The Nuffield Trust value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive culture. They actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and cultures and believe that a diverse staff helps them to better deliver a positive impact to the health of the UK population.
