Since 1998, Unlock has been helping people with criminal records move on positively with their lives. As a small, national charity, we punch above our weight with our ear to the ground and voice at the top. From our helpline to our 2019 intervention in the Supreme Court changing the way criminal records are filtered, Unlock has a successful track record of positive change.

But there is still much to do to allow 11 million people in the UK with criminal records to move on positively with their lives. Through the work we do with our beneficiaries we have a unique insight into what needs to change. We leverage what we learn to inform our policy and advocacy work.

We are now looking for a new CEO who can further develop Unlock to make sure the next 25 years are even more successful than the first 25. 11 million people facing stigma, prejudice and discrimination will be counting on us – and you – to empower them to move on with their lives.

This is a broad and varied job spanning organisational leadership, strategic development, cause advocacy, operational delivery and systems change. We are not expecting candidates to have heavyweight experience in every area, especially as we are open to a first-time Chief Executive as much as an experienced one, but it will be important that over time you succeed in all aspects of the role.

Perhaps most importantly, we are looking for someone driven by our vision of a fair and inclusive society where people with criminal record can move on positively with their lives, someone who can embody our mission and values, and someone to create a sense of hope and ambition for the future.
